Bar code does not scan after printing on a 203 DPI thermal transfer printer or a printer with less than 600 DPI

Home

When printing barcodes with a printer that has less than 600 dots per inch (DPI), the printer may not accurately reproduce the exact bar and space ratios which can result in read error on the bar code scanner or verifier.

Solution:):

To accurately reproduce bar codes with low resolution printers, please follow our recommendations below depending on the product you are using:

Bar code Fonts:

If you are printing bar code fonts to a printer that has less than 600 DPI, (such as thermal printers which are usually at 203 DPI), you should not print smaller than 20 points unless you print at the point sizes specified in the chart below. Some fonts such as PLANET, POSTNET and RM4SCC have less of a requirement for precise printing and satisfactory output for these fonts can be achieved with dot matrix printers, low resolution laser and ink jet printers.
